The landscape has long been a favoured subject matter for South African artists
and their public. The country offers an almost limitless variety of geographical
formations – from arid desert terrain and seemingly endless stretches of flat veld,
through stark mountain ranges and convoluted valleys to densely vegetated, coastal
regions. This landscape remains an inspiration for many artists, who portray their
surroundings using unique combinations of style and technique.
